For more than a decade of my ministry, I traveled across the United States teaching and preaching as a staff member of our United Methodist Board of Discipleship based in Nashville, Tennessee. During those days, I learned how hard it is to find friendly folks and a church home. Embarrassed and awkward, I hesitated to visit a new church.
Then, one Sunday I visited a church close by home home in Nashville. No one spoke to me or smiled or shook my hand. During Sunday School, I wandered about the halls and no one invited me into a class. Then, I took a seat in the sanctuary. No one sat with me. After worship, I saw someone I had met before and walked up to them. They looked at me and said, "What are you doing here?"
I never went back to that church.
This will not happen to you at West Jefferson United Methodist Church. Here is a place for you. Here the folks are friendly. Here is a church family whose arms are open to you. Here is a place to belong for infants, young children, youth, young adults, mid-life adults and senior citizens.
We like to be together and I hope you will join us. Our hearts, our minds and our doors are always open!
